Home Cleaning Hack: Skim Before You Scour

Before you put on your headphones & start your deep cleaning… Always do this first: skim before you scour!

Have you found that once you start cleaning your home, you actually don’t get much done?

This toy doesn’t belong there, so you return it to the toy bin.

And then you see some dirty clothes on the floor, you pick them up, and head to the laundry room. And then since you are in there you think, “I may as well just start a quick load of laundry.”

And on and on. And before you know it… it doesn’t feel like much progress has been made because you set out to vacuum the living room, but you never even got to that!

One phrase that I have lived by for decades is this: Skim before you scour.

What does this mean?

Don’t scrub anything until you have wiped off everything (counter tops, table, bathroom fixtures, etc.)

Clutter disrupts the functioning of the house and is seen before dust is.

If for some reason you are in a minimum maintenance mode, you can get by for a while with just picking up and wiping off, putting things away and running the dishwasher and washing machine.

And then when you are ready to head into a deeper clean mode, your progress will be much faster and more noticeable.

And your home will feel cleaner in between!

Remember, skim before you scour (aka, deep clean).

Warmly,

Daryl
